Fielding Estate Winery 2008 White Conception

Country: Canada

Region: Niagara Peninsula

Cost: $19

Fielding winemaker Richie Roberts says creating the first vintage of White Conception, a blend of five different varietals, proved to be a real struggle. “It took longer to blend this wine than I had imagined,” explains the young vintner, who is well versed in blending wines from a stint as assistant winemaker at Stratus Vineyards. “White blends are always harder.” Roberts’ goal was to create a wine with more complexity on the nose and more richness on the palate than one would find from sampling the individual components of Pinot Gris, Chardonnay Musqué, Gewürztraminer, Riesling and barrel fermented Chardonnay. He succeeded. As a result, Fielding’s White Conception is dry and delectable, rich and refreshing. We heartily recommend it. 650 cases. fieldingwines.com
